The Haspa Marathon Hamburg 2022 is getting ready to start.
For the 36th edition of Germany’s largest spring marathon, up to 20,000 participants are expected on Sunday in the three competitions: marathon, half marathon and marathon relay. At 8.25 a.m. the starting bell will sound on the Holstenglacis for four hand cyclists who will be running the half marathon distance. At 8.30 a.m., the half marathon for 4,250 registered runners will follow at the same location. At 9.30 a.m. Sports Senator Andy Grote and Haspa CFO Jürgen Marquardt will give the starting signal on Karolinenstraße for the main marathon competition with over 10,500 registered athletes. The marathon relay with 5,500 athletes will follow directly. Already tomorrow, Saturday, Das Zehntel, Germany’s largest youth and children’s run, will provide the sporty start of the event weekend. More than 9,000 schoolchildren have registered for this event. The first of three runs will start at 8.30 am.
“We are very pleased that this major Hamburg sporting event can now take place again in this form and thus send an important signal for the athletes as well as for the city and beyond,” explained Hamburg’s State Councillor for Sport Christoph Holstein at a press conference today.
Frank Thaleiser, chief organiser of the Haspa Marathon Hamburg, added: “When a good 25,000 athletes of almost all ages run the blue line through the Hanseatic city this weekend, it is a great compensation for a time full of privation. Our thanks already go to all participants and especially to the city of Hamburg, which has stood by us and supported us in every way over the past two years.”
Today, Friday, the Marathon Hamburg Expo with almost 60 exhibitors on the subject of endurance and outdoor sports opened in exhibition hall A3, followed by the start number distribution. Those who make up their minds at the last minute can still register for the marathon or marathon relay at prices of €119 (marathon) or €169 (relay) between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. tomorrow.
