Solomon Deksisa and Shitaye Eshete win in Hamburg

Ethiopians world-class runners dominated the Haspa Marathon Hamburg, taking all three spots on the podium: Solomon Deksisa won with 2:06:34, which is the third fastest time ever run in Hamburg. Debutant Tadu Abate took second with 2:06:54 while Ayele Abshero was third in 2:07:19. Kenya’s Solomon Yego took fourth with 2:07:37 while the marathon Olympic Champion from London 2012, Uganda’s Stephen Kiprotich, was fifth in 2:07:57.

Shitaye Eshete of Bahrain took the women’s race with a time of 2:24:51 from Ethiopia’s Birke Debele who clocked 2:25:28. Running a fine debut Mimi Belete, who competes for Bahrain, was third in good weather conditions with 2:26:06.

Including events at shorter distances a total of 33,183 entries were registered for the 33rd edition of the Haspa Marathon Hamburg. 14,250 of them ran the classic distance in Germany’s biggest spring marathon.

– The leaderboard lists all participants at the time measurement points as they pass through and provides projections of the expected finish time.
– Spectator information: Here you can find important information on the topics travel, hotspots along the route, route map and meeting points after the race.
– The Facebook, Instagram and Twitter buttons lead to the social media profiles of the Haspa Marathon Hamburg.

What is the Haspa Marathon Hamburg like?

The Haspa Marathon Hamburg is one of the most watched and fastest marathon races world-wide. The course record is set at  2:05:30 and is helf by Olympic Champion 2016 Eliud Kipchoge. He set the time in 2013, when he still was a little known distance runner. Hamburg was his marathon debut.

The Haspa Marathon is the oldest popular sporting event in Hamburg and Germany’s largest spring marathon. The course is a out-and-back sightseeing tour of the beautiful hanseatic city. The marathon in Hamburg is also known for the one-of-a-kind crowd support. People cheer you on all along the route and make the race a very special experience.

Why #RunTheBlueLine? The blue course line is painted on the roads every year in April to show the marathon runners the fastest way from start to finish. Hamburg was the first German marathon to start this tradition in 1986. Follow and run the blue line and you can’t get lost for sure!

There will be some new features for the 33. edition of the Haspa Marathon Hamburg, Germanys biggest spring marathon on April 29, 2018. We worked on our website and you can see the relaunch from September 9, 2017 at 09.09 am on. The Women’s Race within the Haspa Marathon Hamburg will not take place again in 2018, because the focus of this race is supposed to be more on the marathon runners. However, there will be a new race on the event day. For that you will also find the information from September 9, at 09.09 am on in our new website. So make sure to stop by!

New in 2018: Team Ranking

At the 33rd Haspa Marathon Hamburg on 29 April 2018 we will introduce a new category for all participants: The team ranking. The team ranking is aimed at marathon runners that compete under one name or for one team. To take part at the team ranking three runners have to register with the identical team name or club. After the finish, the first three runners of one team with the fastest times will be added.

A women-, men and mixed team ranking will be carried out. This ranking does not require an explicit registration. But all team members have to provide the same team name (with identical spelling) when they sign up. The best teams will be honoured.

Additional rankings at the Haspa Marathon Hamburg

There will be other special ranking carried out during the Haspa Marathon Hamburg. They are:

  • Hamburg Championships (Main/Age Groups)*
  • Hamburg-Corporate Sports Championships Men,Women
  • Hamburg Police Championships Men, Women

*Hamburg Championships Club Ranking: The Hamburg Championships club ranking consists of the added sum of three individual runners (of the same club) finishing times in order of placings. This ranking does not require an explicit registration but simply the participation in the Hamburg Championships as well as providing the respective sports club (identical spelling) during the registration process.

With only 300 days to go our preparations for the 33rd edition of the Hamburg Marathon are in full flight. If you have just startetd training or if you are already ready to sign up – these are some of the things to check first:

We care for your health

Marathon is one of the hardest sports out there and to perform at your best, your body needs to be 100 percent healthy. That is why we suggest that you keep in mind that each participant is required to assess his/her own health condition and fitness with regards to taking part in the marathon event, or consult a doctor if necessary.We advise you to consult the online questionnaire by the German Road Races to evaluate your physical condition. Cancellation Insurance

Sometimes your plan seems to be perfect, yet something might go wrong. In cooperation with Hanse-Merkur we are able to offer you a cancellation insurance as part of your registration. Risks insured are illness, accidents or death as well as loss of employment. A cancellation for personal reasons is, however, not insured.

The insurance premium is at 7.90 EUR up to the 2nd price level of the entry fee (70.00 EUR), and then at 9.90 EUR from the 3rd price level of the entry fee (80.00 EUR) onwards. A service charge of 1.00 EUR will additionally be booked.

In case you have purchased the insurance and cannot enter the race for one of the reasons mentioned above, you will be fully reimbursed for the entrance fee (EXCLUDING any additional services). Given that your claim is insured please send the registration confirmation, as well as a statement of reasoning with the respective proof (doctor’s attestation, etc) to the insurance HanseMerkur.

Plan your sporty year – and take no risk! No matter whether you run in Hamburg, Berlin, New York or Wanne-Eickel, with the annual insurance policy provided by Hanse-Merkur you can plan ahead without taking any risk. New record: 4444 runners have signed up for 2018

Only ten days after the official registration start for the Haspa Marathon Hamburg 4444 runners have signed up. It is a new record, as start slots have never sold out this quickly in the first two weeks.

Of the 4444 registered runners 2000 will run the marathon, 2444 will participate in the relay event. The first 500 marathon relay slots at the special early bird price have sold out. Registration now is 149,- Euros. Be quick and sign up your team before it’s too late and all slots are taken!

Registration for the marathon is currently 70,-. The next Haspa Marathon Hamburg will take place on 29 April 2018. You can find the registration hier.
