9 Months to go!

By Allgemein @en

Nine Months from today the starting signal in the Karolinerstrasse will send off thousands of runners on their 42,195 km long journey following the blue line. The starting signal will also unleash hundreds of balloons that will rise above the city of Hamburg! Let the unparalleled atmosphere in Hamburg carry you to the finish line on 17 April 2016!

The registration opened a month ago – did you already save your spot? Now is a good time to set your goals for the next spring! There is still lots of time for preparation and training – and you can still benefit from the early bird specials. We want to remind all 2015 participants that you have the chance to sign up for a reduced fee of only €56 until 17 August 2015 (find more information in the newsletter from 17 June). The general entry fees are to rise on 17 September – 7 months prior to the start.  The entry fees will then go up from €65 to €75 for the marathon entry and from €129 to €149 for relay teams. Slots for the marathon relay tend to sell out fast, so don’t wait for too long to register! The final increase of the registration fee in all events will then be 17 December.

Haspa Marathon Hamburg 2013

Eluid Kipchoge is bound for Berlin

By Allgemein @en

Eluid Kipchoge, the course record holder of the Haspa Marathon Hamburg (2:05:30) and 2013 champion will be competing at the BMW Berlin Marathon on September 27, 2015. The world record-course in Berlin will see the clash of three superstars on the marathon scene. Two of Eluid’s main competitors in Berlin will be Emmanuel Mutai and Geoffrey Mutai (not related).

It will be up to these three Kenian runners to determine whoever is the best marathoner on this planet. Emmanuel Mutai might want to claim revenge, as he finished second in Berlin in 2014 clocking 2:03:13 – just twenty seconds behind Dennis Kimetto, who ran a world record (2:02:57) that day. Geoffrey Mutai is a 2:03 marathon guy as well – one of his greatest career achievements is winning the New York City Marathon.

We’ll have our eyes set on Eluid, who we have already witnessed finishing first in Hamburg. Within the past 10 months he has won the Chicago Marathon as well as the London Marathon. He will welcome the competition and let them push him to a very fast finishing time – it’s going to be a great race!

We’ll keep our fingers crossed for everyone competing at the BMW Berlin Marathon!

Screening samples all test negative

By Allgemein @en

All doping tests that had been taken after the race on April 30th were negative. On the whole, urine samples of six elite athletes were taken and examined. As the agency responsible for the testing, the German National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) confrimed to us, all tests led to ‘negative’ results.

According to the chief-organiser of the race, Frank Thaleiser, “The results are satisfying and above all, they underline the importance of the job done by NADA as an independent monitoring body combined with the guideslines by the IAAF.”
