With the onset of spring, Germany’s largest spring marathon is also getting closer. Currently, almost 19,500 participants have registered for the three competitions: marathon, half marathon and marathon relay. The half marathon with 4,250 places has already been fully booked for some time, the main marathon competition has so far received 10,400 registrations, and 4,800 participants have registered for the marathon relay. Online registration for the marathon and marathon relay is open until March 24.<\/p>\n
Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yehualaw announced her participation today at a press conference. The 22-year-old marked a new world record time (29:14 minutes) last Sunday in a 10-km race in Castell\u00f3n, Spain. During a press conference today, Yalemzerf Yehualaw the 22-year-old commented on her marathon debut in the Hanseatic city: “I looked at the course. Hamburg is wonderful, has a great scenery. They say the people here are very friendly and the organization is very good. I hope I can perform very well here and will try to set a new course record.”Yehualaw’s compatriot Meselech Melkamu has held the previous Hamburg women’s best of 2:21:54 since her victory in 2016.<\/p>\n
“We are very happy that together with our athlete agency GSC we were able to win one of the currently most promising athletes with Yalemzerf Yehualaw and can also look forward to other big names, not only in the women’s field,” explained Marathon Chief Organizer Frank Thaleiser.<\/p>\n
In addition to Yalemzerf Yehualaw, her compatriot and last year’s winner Gadise Mulu as well as the winner from 2019, Dabibe Kuma, (ETH) are also expected at the start on Karolinenstra\u00dfe on April 24.
\nThe men’s elite field is scheduled to be announced in the second half of March.<\/p>\n
